A donation is an append-only funding event that adds dollars to a project's donated compute balance. It increases the amount maintainers can reserve into compute keys for model token usage.
In opub, donations belong to the project-level pool. That keeps support simple: donors fund the project, and maintainers use the resulting balance for model work that helps the project.
Dollars are the donation and balance unit. Tokens are not donated directly; they are the usage providers report later when maintainers use model tools.
